FMGE Dec 2022 tips for crash course

For new doctors who desire to practice medicine, there is an exam called the Foreign Medical Graduate Exam. For Indians and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), an exam is held twice a year, in June and December, to get a certificate of registration from the National Medical Commission (NMC) or State Medical Council (SMC).

Tips for a crash course

1. Prepare a Timetable

The most useful thing you can do to balance your everyday activities with your studying is to create a schedule. Make a schedule by splitting up the complete syllabus. Follow the plan; if any topics are left out, you can concentrate the final few days on covering them. Make time for both weekly and daily adjustments.

2. Understand the Syllabus

Never study anything outside of what is essential; doing so is a waste of time. Use the prior year's question papers and practice tests to narrow down the subject to cover, or seek guidance from someone who has already passed the test. The subjects and topics should be ordered according to importance and weight.

The candidates must complete the entire curriculum. Instead of concentrating on one subject's preparation, give each one the same amount of time and attention. Because you have limited resources and cannot afford to take this kind of risk, avoid utilizing short-cut strategies like concentrating on one topic or issue while ignoring others.

3. Make proper Notes

Any study plan that doesn't include notes is insufficient. You should develop the habit of taking notes if you want to be more prepared for the exam. You can use it as a helpful study aid while you go over your material. When their preparation is at its best, students usually do not have enough time to review the full syllabus. If you have excellent recall, taking notes will also aid in your ability to retain information better and more quickly over the next few days.

4. Focus on Your Weaker Sections

Most candidates just focus on their strongest areas, leaving the hard and time-consuming topics to the very last minute. It significantly affects both your ranking and overall performance. Recognize your areas of weakness and invest the necessary time in addressing them. Remember that since every mark is important in the end, you cannot afford to miss topics!

5. Regular Revision

Revising the chapters or themes at regular intervals helps that the material is maintained for an extended period of time. Try to review the pertinent subjects once or twice every day because a lot of information is assimilated throughout this process. Plan your study time so that you have adequate space for at least one revision cycle.

6. Practice MCQs

No matter how well-prepared you are, FMGE's success depends on accuracy and speed. It would be great if you attempted a variety of MCQs on each subject because doing so would enable you to pinpoint areas that need more attention. Additionally, examining exam papers from earlier years will improve your efficiency and speed.

7. Attempt Mock Tests

Mock tests are a great way to evaluate your level of preparation and study plan. You can identify your areas for improvement by taking timed practice exams. After finishing the mock test series, which will give you immediate feedback on your capacity for test-taking under time constraints, you can evaluate your performance.

8. Practice Visual Learning

75% of what the human brain visualizes is retained in memory! In order to keep information accurate for a longer amount of time, it is advantageous to use figures, photos, flowcharts, and videos, especially in anatomy and physiology. You will have no difficulty imagining these images whenever you face the relevant questions. So incorporate visual learning into your study routine. Nothing is insurmountable if it is presented in the right way. Utilize your time wisely, create a strategy for your study time, and follow it. Study hard and give each subject equal weight. Additionally, spend more or less time on the problem depending on your strengths and weaknesses.

9. Combine memory techniques

Using one or more senses, taking brief pauses, thinking positively, and studying with a relaxed mind are some memory-strengthening tactics that, when used together, produce a synergistic effect and aid in your preparations.

10. Brainstorm

A strategy for getting the brain to think and come up with solutions is brainstorming. The majority of medical concerns are interconnected, so before beginning with the provided content, brainstorming with the knowledge you currently have will aid in a better comprehension of the subject and ensure retention.

11. Maintain the information

Because there is a large ocean of information in medicine, it tends to drift away as you go; to avoid this, strive to write, talk, or discuss the material. Review the notes frequently to ensure long-term retention for the FMGE Exam.

12. Encourage yourself / practice self-motivation

If you have difficulty remembering anything, don't be too hard on yourself. Try to recall it by using comparable themes, and you'll soon be able to identify it. Also, give yourself a compliment; this will boost your confidence. Each person preparing for the MCI FMGE Exam uses a different method of memorization. Therefore, one must evaluate which strategy performs the best and memorize using that method.
